[TN-Bird] Rufous Hummingbird Day 41

Willie came from the darkness into the light at 6:39 a.m. this morning.
The temperature is in the high 50's but it is very windy and he has to
work hard to hover and drink. We've observed that he doesn't often sit
and drink in these early visits; guess there is increased insecurity
when he can't see what is outside that circle of light from the lamp.
And he needs to be cautious - we have a Sharp-shinned Hawk that has made
our feeders his personal fly-in dining area. We keep assuring ourselves
that Willie is in no danger with all the other items on the menu, but
we're glad he is so careful in his approaches to the sugar water.
We're planning a trip to Minnesota early in February. Mike Todd's
report from his November experience and Kim Eckert's "A Birder's Guide
to Minnesota" have been very helpful in our planning, but if any of you
have additional input that would help us find our target owls,
woodpeckers, and waxwings, please share with us.
