The Savannah TN CBC was conducted January 3. I still have not heard from one
party, but we have already tallied 99 species. Highlights included Greater
Scaup (Savannah sewage ponds), Lesser Black-backed Gull (Pickwick Dam), Common
Ground-Dove (northern loop of Crunk Rd., Savannah Bottoms, DeLorme p. 17, D7)
and 2 Fish Crows (below Pickwick Dam). Notable usuals included 10 woodcock
(an advantage of warm weather-75 degrees), 2 Short-eared Owls (Hamburg Rd.
south
of Shiloh), 4 Brown-headed Nuthatches (TVA Campground), 7 Palm Warblers (3
parties), 21 Vesper Sparrows (3 parties), 2 Lincoln's Sparrows, 3 Lapland
Longspurs, 18 Brewer's Blackbirds, 13 Purple Finches and 33 Pine Siskins.
Regulars
missed so far include most puddle ducks (found only Wood Duck, Mallard and
Shoveler), Bufflehead, Merlin, Shrike, Red-breasted Nuthatch, House, Marsh and
Sedge Wrens, and LeConte's Sparrow.
