Standifer Gap Marsh, Chattanooga
January 16, 2003, afternoon
Snowing fairly hard, big flakes, nearly 1 inch of snow on ground, about 1/4 of
water surface with ice or slush.
No sign of rails
No ducks except 3 Mallards which came late in the afternoon
Three small birds at the south end, where the Sedge Wrens have been lately,
which looked and acted like Sedge Wrens, but too hard to see in the snow.
Many Song and Swamp Sparrows and a few Savannah Sparrows, all of them along the
ditch across the parking lot and most of them hopping around on the carpet of
Water Millefoil.
At least one immature and one adult White-crowned Sparrow at north end near the
house.
Eight Meadowlarks that flushed up singly from grass/rush shelters, like
Bobwhites.
A Cooper's Hawk that feared no man, at least not this one.
