I have had Great Horned Owls nesting in the woods back of my house for at
least 15 or 20 years.  About five or six years, a neighbor called and said
she was hearing strange sounds in the back fields and woods.  I went out
every night for about a week and taped thirty minutes of the sounds, sent
the tape to Michael Bierley, who conferred with his owl expert--informed me
that they were young Great Horned Owls and would probably sound like this
all the way up through October sometimes.

Two nights ago, 6Jan03, my son called me out on the back porch.  A regular
"hooting call" was coming from a set location for about five minutes, and
the "screeching" call of a young was coming from a moving location, starting
at the top of the wooded area, across the fields, and down to the creek
area.

Would like to hear any further comments on this from you young experts
