The paper work is finished and we can now report that we had a successful
Nickajack CBC. We had 18 people in seven parties who found 98 species.
The highlights included a Western Grebe that had been present for at
least a week, and a Prairie Warbler. We also recorded Snow Geese for the
third time, and Green-winged Teal for the third count, as well as third
count record for Orange-crowned Warbler and second count record for
Lincoln's Sparrow. We also recorded record highs for Greater Scaup,
American Woodcock and Chipping Sparrows. Count lows included the first
miss for Common Goldeneye and record lows for Gadwall, Mallard, House
Finch and American Goldfinch. We did get our second highest total for
American Black Duck, a species sometimes hard to find on this count. It
was interesting that we had our second lowest total for American Crow
(West Nile virus?).
