Inspired by Don Holt's posting yesterday of his New Year's Day visit to
Wal-Mart Distribution Center with Rack and Sammy Cross, I dropped by
WMDC this afternoon for about an hour and fifteen minutes to check
things out.  Bird species and numbers were good; my species list was
similar to the one Don posted yesterday.  Most notable were:

Mallard (73);
American Black Duck (11);
Gadwall (70);
Green-winged Teal (45);
American Wigeon (6);
Northern Pintail;
Northern Harrier;
Marsh Wren (in the third pond, at the culvert connecting the third pond
to the fourth pond);
Palm Warbler;
Common Yellowthroat (calling and making itself visible in the third pond
midway along the side near the railroad track);
Savannah Sparrow (2)
Swamp Sparrow (4).
