TN-birders:

This may be slightly off topic, but I would just like to mention that I had
the privilege of spending a day in the field with Laura Erickson a couple of
years ago. Laura was a great guide, who went out of her way to help Don
Manning and myself on a winter trip to Duluth, MN (her hometown). During the
day we spent with her, it was obvious that her interest in birds went way
beyond just observing them. One of the many highlights of that trip was
Laura spotting the 1st of several Great Gray Owls we saw, when it was barely
light enough to see yet. She is obviously a very intelligent woman, who
seems to have taken this bull by the horns!

Good birding!!!!! (I can't wait to do some again)

I know I may be opening another can of worms, but if you have time, here is
a point by point response to a Dec 27 article from the Wall street Journal
about the negative aspects of bird feeders. I think Laura does a pretty good
job of addressing the falacies, biases, and misrepresetnations. The Cornell
Lab of Ornithology and Nationa Bird-feeding Society also have commentaries
on the article.
