Standifer Gap Marsh, Chattanooga
01-02-03
A couple of morning hours yielded 4 uncommon winter species:
Virginia Rail (5) 3 at south end, 2 at north end
Sora (1) 2 notes, near the south (church) end rather than the gravel road.
Sedge Wren (3, more unless they were following me)
Palm Warbler (1) between house and church, with Bluebirds
Anyone wishing to see the Sedge Wrens should walk from the boat dock around the
south end of the water... will need 12" boots, and a walking stick is helpful,
the ground is irregular and vines are designed to trip. The wrens have been
active and vocal and fairly easy to see, and CUTE (sorry to use that technical
term).
