.NET Framework v2.0 installs side-by-side with the 1.x version.  Go look
in c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework and you'll probably see 1.0 and
1.1 folders, and 2.0 just gets added if you ran it.

As I understand it, software has to be specifically written to use the
v2.0 framework, so simply installing has absolutely no effect on any
software or the OS.
