I can only speak from a system design perspective. The high speed =3D
sampling scope is free because that's basic lab equipment every hardware
=3D manager will budget for his lab. A VNA is  an extra equipment solely =
=3D
used for channel modelling/testing or the remote possibility of PD =3D
analysis. I never believe in highspeed PD problem beyond the die and =3D
package so I never can justify a VNA other than channel measurements. I
=3D do have both but I think an impulse response on a sampling scope can =
=3D
satisfies a lot of system designers need for S-parameter measurements. =
=3D
And I believe that scope company up North is listening :-D (just came =
=3D
back from their seminar, LOL) Now if I can use that VNA budget for a
Ferrari......

Wouldn't a scope fast enough to capture the reflections or transmissions
of a 35ps pulse be as or more expensive than a low-cost VNA?
