Ever consider a constant-current source?  

Most I/O are based on voltage drivers.  If you use
a current driver, the voltage drop along the length of the
line will increase with longer lines, but the voltage
across the termination resistor will remain the same.

That said, the driver's dynamic range (i.e., min voltage
vs max voltage at the same current) will limit the range
this approach is effective.
