[SI-LIST] Analog and Digital grounds

When I was coming up (longer ago than I care to admit to) I was taught the
conventional wisdom that Analog and Digital signals should have seperate ground
traces (later ground planes) which connect at a single point. I have gathered
that this is as old fashioned as using a single 0.1 uF capacitor for each power
pin.

Will some kind people point me to some papers or other resources where I can
learn what the current thinking is (and the theory behind it). The latter is
essential because trying to get some people to abandon the "tried and true"
methods for something more up to date takes a lot of convincing.

It is passing strange how many Luddites there are in the electronics industry.
Everyone knows that electronics technology is changing at a rapid rate, but
many managers and even working engineers want to use the conventional wisdon
they learned years before.

How odd is it that a 56 year old engineer can't convince a thirty something
manager that times have changed.

By the way, I joined this list hoping to learn some things, and it has been
great. Thanks to all you who are willing to share your expertise.
