[SI-LIST] using 4195A network/spectrum analyzer....

There has been a little discussion lately on the types of coax cable to use
when doing lab analysis of your PDS(power distribution system). I would
like to back up a bit....I am trying to do frequency vs. impedance
measurements with a 4195A network/spectrum analyzer. Couple of questions:

Is it necessary to calibrate the fixture after every measurement? I was
told to do this, but I'm wondering if it is one of the myths that propagate
with equipment, and not really needed.

What are people using to make these measurements? This is an old spectrum
analyzer(goes to 500Mhz, but I figure I can look at decoupling caps) and I
would like to hear reviews/horror stories about other test instruments if
people would share them.

Any little "tricks" associated with this particular piece of
equipment(i.e."the manual is a joke, try....") would also be appreciated.

I guess you can boil it down to--I'm looking for practical lab advice to
validate the models we've been using. I don't trust them as far as I can
throw them because no one here has actually done anything in the lab to
prove them out.

Thank you for your time,
Tegan Campbell
