[SI-LIST] Minimally invasive monitoring

Hello to all,
What is the best way to connect to an existing high-speed signal on a
backplane with minimum disruption, for monitoring purposes ?

The signal is 3.125Gb/s on a 50 ohm differential transmission line, and I
would like to to essentially probe the backplane so as interface to an
existing board which has also has 50 ohm differential input. The problem is
what to put between the two boards so that the backplane signal is minimally
disturbed. I was thinking along the lines of a custom curcuit similar to a
high speed active probe, but I don't know the principles of how they acheive
high impedance and minimal loading.

If anyone could point me in the direction of some detailed info on this, I'
would very much appreciate it.

Thanks,
Bernard Harris
