Naresh,
I'm not sure what you are asking for.
The SATA spec says you must pass the FER requirement.
You may have a customer who is asking for performance related to error rate.
It is up to you to negotiate with your customer, the terms of acceptable
error rate performance.
If performing the FER test is burdensome because you don't have the IP to
add the SATA protocol, then the best you can do is perform BER tests.
The purpose of the SATA tests are to ensure compliance with the spec. If
your device cannot do the FER test, then it cannot do the SATA protocol, and
it cannot be compliant with the spec because it doesn't conform to the
protocol for sending data. If the protocol is not present in your product,
it cannot be SATA compliant.
I hope that makes the situation clearer.

Chuck,
True, but FER targets BER only & If I am passing that BER no. with all
possible (Frames) paterns, doesn't it mean that I don't need to see FER.
I guess FER is required when you are failing at BERT but still you
canpass with FER Test.
Am I right??

Naresh,
The SATA 2.6 spec explains the relationship of FER and BER. You can
relate the two by the calculation you describe. Since all data is
passed in frames, and errors are detected on frames, FER is the
observable parameter, not BER.

Hi All,
While doing FER (Frame Error Rate) Testing for Serial ATA Interface, I
came across some max. FER no. allowed.=3D20 Can I use BER Tester for
measuring this by multiplying my whole max.
FIS(Frame Information Structure) with the no. of bits contained in FIS.
