Hi all,
Thank you all for your replies regarding my question.
I am sorry if this is an off topic question.
I would like to get suggestions on how good it is to model
fiber optic system elements in SPICE.=20
Is there any efforts going on to create SPICE models for=20
photonic elements like laser diode, Photo diode, fiber etc.
If so please give me some pointers on this.
Regards
Ashok

Subject: RE: [SI-LIST] [RE]Impulse response of MMF
Greetings Ashok:
Please take a look at
http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/3/ae/public/index.html
to see the presentations made at numerous standards meetings for 10G
Ethernet. The short reach options use MMF and there was considerable
effort
placed on channel modeling. I recall that HP contributed measured data
for
the impulse response. Broadcom and others used this data to consider
equalization strategies.
Hope it helps.
Regards,
Larry

Ashok,
Since MMF is optical medium not like copper traces, it's better for you
to
specify light source and receiver, such as laser diode and photo-
detector.
Usually, Laser diode has significantly different characterstics under DC
biasconditions. If biased above threshold currents, then laser diode
has
overshoot and relaxation oscillation characteristics. Simply, you can
model
RLC tank circuits.
Pls let me know if you need to know more about this,
Regards,
Carl Ryu

Hello Si-List,
Can someone tell me how to characterize the impulse response of
a multimode fiber ?
Is there any paper available on this topic?
Regards
Ashok
