Too bad you have to use Word for collaborative editing. A couple of =
years ago, I was working with the INCITS T11 technical committee when we =
began work on a new Fibre Channel standard. It was decided to abandon =
Frame and use the ubiquitous MS Word this time. But after 2 or 3 =
meetings, the editors gave up in frustration, and went back to =
Framemaker.
IMHO, a noteworthy weakness of Word, and strength of Framemaker, is with =
outline-style (hierarchical) numbering of chapters and sections in large =
documents or books. When you have to insert, remove, or shuffle =
sections from different sources, Frame seems always to get the numbering =
right, where Word invariably fouls it up beyond all recognition. Maybe =
MS has improved this recently, but I think it's rooted fundamentally in =
the internal representation of your document's content, organization, =
and style. Frame endures because its creators "got it" from the outset.
