Hi All,
I have posted my latest "Technical Tidbit" at http://emcesd.com. The
title is: Placement of Parallel Capacitors on a Printed Wiring Board
(for troubleshooting or a quick fix)
Abstract: Capacitors are sometimes added in parallel to an existing
capacitor on a printed wiring board to improve the high frequency
characteristics of the existing capacitor for troubleshooting purposes
or for a temporary fix. Ways of mounting the added capacitor are
discussed and recommendations made. The most popular mounting method
is shown to be ineffective for some cases, especially at frequencies
of hundreds of megahertz and higher.
The link to the article is the picture at the bottom of the home page
at http://emcesd.com of the board with one part stacked on top of the
original capacitor.
One of the purposes of the articles I write is to give engineers a
source to cite to peers or their managers to support the engineer's
views. Having an independently written article that agrees with your
position can be a powerful tool to advance your views in the
organization. If the "Technical Tidbit" articles have worked for
anyone this way, I would be interested to know.
Doug
