Ma, your first concern with -48V battery should be safety 
clearances.  Check the archives for discussion on the issue.

There are a number of guidelines to a good stack-up and there are at least 
several good discussions of the trade-offs in the archives.  See 
particularly recent discussions of balancing, where, why and how.
