Presumably the voltage source instantiation was done in another line?

If that assumption was not true then this would be a problem.  I recall
seeing the statement
that other things are attached to node(1) and node(2)...

I have to model a voltage controlled current source, problem is that the
controlling node is the same as the node across which this VCCS is
connected something like this. [it's a kind of non-linear resistor too.]

but somehow this sentence gives syntax error.  I am simulating in spectreS
(similar as hspice) environment.  Any clue why this shows syntax
error....

There's no V-source in that line.  There is only an I-source, whose current
depends on the voltage measured there.

Are you sure SpectreS uses the same syntax rules as Hspice?  (I don't know,
only questioning.)

Do you get the same syntax error when run in Hspice?
