[SI-LIST] Re: Looking for Spectrum Analyzer info

Many spectrum analyzers can be damaged by DC voltage (and ESD), so AC coupling
with a bias tee or similar is recommended.
I don't know the dynamic range of the analyzer you have, but typically spectrum
analyzers are designed for good dynamic range and can easily detect low-level
signals.
As for a crude probe, simply cut a piece of coax and use the inner conductor as
a probe tip. Ground the outer conductor to an appropriate place in your
circuit. This can give gross measurements up to the capability of the coax. I
use this method for probing around up to 50 GHz and above. It is not accurate,
but helps in tracking down circuit problems.
For very crude emission tests, make a loop with the inner conductor and solder
it to the outer conductor.
