Interesting,

I assume the Tesla Roadster all electric sports car has fans to bring
cooler air into its Li-ion battery pack

CK,

We run Li-ion batteries at those temps in high vibration and shock =3D
environments. I would be hesitant to use off the shelf appliance =3D
batteries.  See this supplier:

Hello CK,
=3D20

Not a good idea, it might explode. I used to live in a dry and hot =3D
place (Arizona) and I could tell that my cordless phone's Ni-Ca =3D
batteries last half as long as other states and would die a lot sooner =
=3D
too. Temperatures in car (especially near the dashboard which is =3D
directly under the sun) can reach 130-140 degrees. Best place to check
=3D would be the manufacturers websites. Here is a table for Li-Ion =3D
batteries in general:

=3D20

Check this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery

=3D20

Storage Temperature

40% Charge

100% Charge

0 =3DB0C (32 =3DB0F)

2% loss after 1 year

6% loss after 1 year

25 =3DB0C (77 =3DB0F)

4% loss after 1 year

20% loss after 1 year

40 =3DB0C (104 =3DB0F)

15% loss after 1 year

35% loss after 1 year

60 =3DB0C (140 =3DB0F)

25% loss after 1 year

40% loss after 3 months

=3D20

Hi,

We are planning to use Li-ion batteries for an automobile navigation =3D
system.

=3D20

The unit will be placed on the dashboard.

=3D20

=3D20

=3D20

# I am eager to know if vibration and temperature in the =3D
vicinity of

car dashboard affects the performance/lifetime of the battery.

=3D20

# Can we use the Li-ion batteries used for day-to-day appliances
=3D
for

this purpose?

Thanks and Best Regards
