si-list-
Over the past month or so the spam and virus/worm filtering facilities
at freelists.org have
prevented about 500 infected messages from being forwarded to the
si-list membership.
Over the past day a new worm has been making the rounds. This one is known
as either Beagle.J or Bagle.J.
If the file attempts to propagate via si-list it should be stopped by
the freelist filtering
facilities and your should never even see it. If someone spoofs the
si-list address and
sends it directly you could conceivably receive something claiming to be
from
'administration@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' containing instructions to open and
attached file using a
password they provide in order to prevent automatic deletion from the
freelists database.
If you receive anything resembling that DO NOT OPEN the attachment. Just
delete
the message. This worm only affects Windows based systems, so if you are
running
Unix, Linux or a Mac you should be OK (with respect to the worm) except
for the
extra traffic the worm generates.
Remember, that if a file contains a binary attachment it did not come
to you via si-list.
