[SI-LIST] Re: list etiquett

Hi Kim and the group,
A significant number of the out-of-office replies come with enough
differencethat they end up in more than one mail box after filtering. If I
amin a hotel where the Internet access is not all that fast all the o-o-f
replies can take significant time. During peak hours at some hotels,
messagescome in at one per few seconds.
BTW, I was at Oxford University recently teaching my short courses and was
staying in the Rewley House dorm. One of my downloads of a large file came
inat 43 Mbits/sec! That is many times faster than anything in the US and
faster than most home routers can even handle. I wish hotels were that fast.

Or, you could just set your mail filter to trash "out of office" replies.
You might be right that shutting off the list while gone is a polite thing
todo, but expecting the whole list to comply with that restriction is
probably unrealistic. My approach to this only requires a behavior change
(and a one-time one at that) on my part, but greatly enhances my chances of
remaining sane and placid.
I almost never need to see an "out of office" reply, even from co-workers,
sothis is a good solution for me. YMMV, of course.

I would post more often (now only once or twice a month) except for the
large number of emails I get from inconsiderate list members who have
their mail servers send out thousands of "out of the office" emails. I
have attached a screen shot of just a fraction of the messages I just
received. It is a simple procedure to sign off the list while on
vacation and then reinstate the subscription afterwards. I think people
who do not do this be barred from the list. Any thoughts?
