[SI-LIST] An interesting EMI story

My young son has lots of cool night light gadgets on a table next
to his bed. One of these is a "plasma globe". It's a glass globe that
uses high voltage to generate "lightning bolt" streamers from a central
point to the inside surface of the globe.
We just discovered that if his digital alarm clock gets within about
30cm of the globe, the clock digits start counting wildly.
Perhaps this would be a good cheap EMI susceptibility test. You can get
a plasma globe for around $20.
Regards,
Chris
