[SI-LIST] simulating mobile phone effects on circuits

I have been writing again, this time on how to simulate mobile phone
effects on your circuits without spending US$30,000 on specialized
test equipment.

Mobile phones and other wireless devices can cause problems when they
are in very close proximity to equipment. This Technical Tidbit
discusses an easy to build antenna useful in tracking down such problems.

Abstract: A simple antenna is described that is easily made from
coaxial cable and is useful for troubleshooting purposes. It is
balanced and does not require a balun to be fed from coaxial cable.
Such an antenna has many uses around the lab.

The link to the article is the picture of the experimental test setup
at the bottom of the home page at http://emcesd.com .

On a separate note: I enjoyed listening to the 17 minute to CE podcast
posted to this list by Stuart Miller and I would encourage others on
the list to post podcasts on topics of interest to the list members.

There are some cautions though. One person who started podcasting
faced something like a US$30,000 bill from his Internet hosting
provider at the end of the first month! I will be adding podcasts in
quick succession this week and next on http://emcesd-p.com/podcast.
One of these will be how to avoid the pitfalls (like a $30,000 bill at
the end of the month) and other tips.

Just purchased some pro-audio equipment, getting serious about
podcasting. Starting shortly, the signal to noise ratio on my podcasts
will be improved 20 dB or more. By the end of the week, my laptop will
be a well equipped recording studio (hardware and software) for field
interviews of people in SI, EMC, and related fields. I hope to put on
some good shows for this group.
