    Hello,
The first meeting of the EMC-SCV Chapter in 2006 is on Tuesday, January 10,
2006.

The meeting starts at 5:30 to provide an opportunity to say hello and Happy
New Year to friends and colleagues, while enjoying the refreshments and food.
We will also dedicate part of the meeting to remembering Rich Watkins, an old
friend of this chapter and the EMC society at large.

  IEEE/EMC Society Meeting
  January 10, 2006

  Time: Social 5:30 p.m. Presentation 7:00 p.m.

  Place: Applied Materials Bowers Cafeteria
3090 Bowers Ave., Santa Clara, CA 95051-0804

Subject: Stackup Analysis Using Simulation Tools

  Speaker: Chuck Troia

It is important for Electronic and hardware engineers to not only be
knowledgeable of the circuits and components they use in their designs, but
also to understand and be familiar with the construction of the circuit board
stackup. The stackup is the specification of the arrangement of circuit board
layers that defines the make up of the circuit boards that are used in the
implementation of their designs. This presentation will cover topics such as
how to identify basic stackup goals, the major elements and requirements for
PCB stackup analysis, will include examples of how to perform stackup analysis
using a simple simulation tool; and some simple thoughts on how to review the
data and information available from a PCB Vendor.

  Speaker Bio:

modems. Chuck has nearly 20 years of experience in EMC Design and Regulatory
Support, and has worked for Hewlett Packard and 3Com Corporation where his work
included designing and building 3Com?s first EMC lab and test facility.
Chuck holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Cal Poly (Pomona),

    In Memoriam

  Rich Watkins

It is with utmost sadness that we report the passing of a longtime friend and
contributor to the EMC society, Rich Watkins. He passed away peacefully of
natural causes in late December.

Rich was an exceptional loyal friend of the society and a great test
engineer. He was a dedicated individual and contributed by leading the
Membership activities of the Chapter for many years. Rich had worked both in
the commercial and military sectors such as Apple Computer, ESL-TRW, HP, and
others and within the IEEE/EMC/SCV/ADCOM for a number of years. He lived in
Sunnyvale for a number of years before moving to the Sacramento area last year.

Rich was a pleasant person to be around, and he was well-known for his
favorite Hawaiian shirts. His memories and the contributions he has made to the
Society will be with us.
