I can run a mailing list of this size on my server at
ml.silvergrain.org or ml.agx.st (That is, AgX or silver halide), but
I'm a bit reluctant because the server has experienced some downtime
every several months in the past. The ML server is Mailman with
archives on the web. If freelists.org does better on this, I see no
use for my offer so I kept quiet.

I disagree here --- I signed up to freelists but that was just to
check out their system a bit. While I appreciate Jim's action, I do
not necessarily express my preference to freelists over other options
until thorough comparison is made against other viable options.
