Subject: [pure-silver] Skin irritation from Dektol - alternatives?

As much as I love Dektol as a developer, I get a nasty
skin
reaction from it on my hands. I did switch to Agfa
Neutol
(Plus and WA) for a while and it was great! I could
put my
hands in that all day long with no problems. But now
that
they're discontinued, I've gone back to Dektol and
skin
irritation.

Can anyone recommend an alternative that would not
cause the same skin reaction? I'm not really into
mixing
my own...I'm looking for a good commercially available
paper developer. Thanks!

-Charlie

Try Ilford Bromophen. This uses Phenidone and Hydroquinone. Since both can cause skin problems it may not work for you. I am pretty sure there are other print developers which do not contain Metol. Those made by Sprint are among them but I have no idea of their performance.
Hi !
I've no interrest on this, except to speak of a list member, but the Ryuji's Silvergrain paper dev. are made of ascorbic acid if I'm not wrong. You can mix your own and buy them ready made on digitaltruth.
Just my 2¢ here ...
Have a nice day

I forgot that Ryuji's formulas are now available packaged. The place to look is
http://www.digitaltruth.com/store/silvergrain.html

While they may look expensive they are highly concentrated so the working solutions are quite reasonable. Since these are Phenidone-Ascorbic acid developers they should be relatively innocuous.
