Metol will dissolve in a 100g/l sulfite solution. It does take heating
the solution to 125F (no big deal as Kodak recommends this anyway) and
*lots* of stirring. I learned this one time making up D-76 and forgot
to add the Metol before the sulfite and hydroquinone. So much for
multitasking.

Metol will not dissolve in a concentrated solution of
sulfite. Kodak obviously has some magic which is used for
D-76 and Dektol so that they can be packaged as a single
powder. I have no idea of how they accomplish this. Many
years ago both developers came in two part containers.
