Broadband is coming to Hawaii.
HECO to experiment with broadband powerline technology
HONOLULU (AP) _ Hawaiian Electric Company says it's planning
to expand and experiment to offer new services through its
power lines, including high speed Internet service.
HECO officials say about 100 homes in Pearl City will test
the new broadband powerline technology next year.
Officials say the technology gives HECO the ability to read
electricity meters remotely and better and more accurately
monitor its network.
HECO spokeswoman Lynne Unemori says the customers selected
for the technology trial won't incur any added charges.
