Oh I know it's been talked about for years, but there was no
point in doing anything about it until now, or the next few
months.
From whom did you get your digital tuner box?
I'm not clear on what you mean about not needing it since
you're on cable. I'm on cable too, and the current tuners in
my TV's will get all basic channels, the cable box is needed
for premium channels. Is that still going to be the case? I
was under the impression that the only HDTV channels one could
get without a special box where over-the-air local affiliate
channels like ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.

From: "Ben Moore"
I just bought my government subsidized digital tuner this
morning. Got my
$40 coupon in the mail this week. I don't need it since I use
cable but
thought I would get one just to have it on hand if I wanted to
use it during
a power outage. My local cable company is dead in the water
when the power
goes out. I'm 50 miles from the nearest over the air broadcast
of any kind
but I can get a couple of over the air stations.
Where have you been Clint? They've been talking about this for
years. I
think it was supposed to take effect last year but it got
extended. Not for
the consumer but because TV stations couldn't get their act
together in
time. I believe that it's now federal law that they can't sell
the old
analog TV's anymore without big warning labels that say it
won't work after
Feb 2009.
I think the whole motivation behind this is that they are
running out of
bandwidth and desperately need those analog TV frequencies for
other uses.
Call your congressman. ;-)

So......after Feb. 2009 when analog TV no longer exists:
What happens to all of our portable TV's? All those battery
powered hand-held TV's and 5-7" TV's? TV's in our cars?
Useless? Money thrown away?
What happens to our TV tuner cards for our PC's? Useless?
Money thrown away?
What happens to our VCR's or any other recording device when we
need to record one program while watching another, something
done millions of times each day? Tuff?
If we are going to be shackled by these stupid boxes our cable
companies are blackmailing or extorting us to use--which in
turn render the native tuners in the TV's totally useless
REGARDLESS of whether or not they have H/DTV tuners, I supposed
they'll offer coupons for EACH of them for EACH recording
device instead of the one-per-household?? And they are going
to have them battery powered and shirtpocket size?? I smell
the largest suit in USA history.
