[ossrp-control] Re: So, where do you want the project to go?

Hi,
It's difficult to see how you could have a truly "stand alone" screen =
reader
or adaptive technology. IN some way or another it has to be able to =
hook
into the system you are using, so that it can process the output for =
your
use. Unless we're talking about something as way out as performing
processing on the pure graphics sent to the screen, which would be a
nightmare, I think you have to have some prior knowledge of at least =
some
part of the user interface provided by the OS.
Because .NET is going to become highly pervasive over time, and indeed
already showing up in the Linux and UNIX arenas too, it would seem a =
good
platform independent base to start from.
If, for example, there were a way to have the product shipped on a USB
storage device, such as a USB pen or key fob, and this could be made
bootable, then you might have the closest thing to a stand alone =
solution.
But I've no idea whether USB storage devices can be made bootable or =
not,
nor whether the cost of such hardware would add a prohibitive price to =
the
product.
All the best,
David

Will, I'm worried about using .net...
Here's why. Imagine you're staying at a hotel, and you have a really=20
important e-mail (comfidential for the example), that you need to pick =
up.=20
The hotel aren't going to let you go onto their computer and start=20
downloading frameworks are they? I know at my school, we can't install=20
things, so don't you think a stand alone idea might be a better =
approach?
Cheers,
Chris Norman
