Lights Out for Moviebeam
The set-top-based download service formerly owned by Disney is
shutting down for good.
December 07, 2007 | by Rachel Cericola
Disney didn’t want them. Now it appears that Movie Gallery is shutting
down the Moviebeam service.
The movie rental chain first bought Moviebeam off of Disney a year
ago. Apparently, they couldn’t make it work either. Zatz Not Funny
says that Moviebeam might have been a victim of its $250 price tag;
once you bought the set-top box, movies could be purchased for an
additional $2 to $4.
It looks like you can still scarf up the boxes on the Moviebeam
website, but let the buyer beware—the rumor is that service will be
cut off as of December 15. However,BetaNews says that newer customers
may be able to get a refund on the hardware.
