That was also my experience in Europe, during the 60s, while using an NTSC
B&W TV. Never a problem locking to 625/50 signal. The audio circuitry
required modification to demodulate the higher carrier frequency and, of
course, the set could not display the full broadcast video bandwidth but
it's performance was comparable to good NTSC.

TV sets would have never worked with many early VCRs had they not had broad
range sync detectors.
