Hewlett-Packard has been credited with almost single-handedly driving
the PC TV tuner market, by including TV capabilities with almost all
of its PCs.
IMS Research said that the tuner market for PCs sold within North
America jumped from 2.5 million units to 5.2 million units. In
Western Europe, the PCTV tuner market increased by 52 percent, to 6.4
million units.
Adding an ATSC-NTSC tuner with FM stereo support to an HP PC costs
about $80. However, HP is not the only company that adds a TV tuner
as part of the default configuration; Dell has added a $97 ATI
Theater 650 PRO to selected members of its "Inspiron Advanced" line
of desktops and XPS performance systems.
