I think that installing an application is still a 'bit' easier than
downloading a DirectShow filter and running Regsvr32.exe, even if you don't
need any of the command-line options to get the filter to register. (I've
never found this easy with dshow filters.)
I don't think you need to actually "install" VLC; I believe you can just
copy the file to your desktop, and run it from there without any formal
install.
So, installation is even easier than I stated. At least, the only change I
can see between just using the app as is or using the installer is how the
desktop icon looks.
I know people who bundle VLC in with commercial products.

Once you have the filter registered then app's like Zoom Player or even
Windows Media can play the media.

- Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org
- By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word
unsubscribe in the subject line.
