I'm not a lawyer so don't quote me on this.
I believe you only need a license to be able to create GIFs. If all you're
doing is reading a GIF, then you don't need a license. I believe the same
thing is true with compressed TIFFs. You can read 'em without a license,
but you can't write them.

I don't think they did, and that was the first thing I was going to look
into :) I don't remember seeing one, but then again I didn't look that
closely.
