I didn't like those menus that much at first, too. But they have really
good advantages; they hide the not so important profiles UI elements
(reducing clutter for something only very few people will use) and save
real screen estate.
They make the UI more clean than otherwise possible. Another way of
doing it would be to have this triangle widget which enlarges the
window and gives you access to the advanced profile buttons - but of
course, that's even more hidden, and, when opened, needs a lot more
space without being more functional.
