Amazing. Patching gcc does *not* solve the problem.

It reads this option from the "specs" file in 
/boot/develop/tools/gnupro/lib/gcc-lib/i586-beos/2.9-beos-991026
Removing -lnet in the specs file will fix the linker problem,
while the output of gcc  -dumpspecs will remainthe same.
