Here, I have to disagree. :)
* Haiku is not a server OS
The only thing you're not having in mind is our target audience for R1,
I guess - Haiku just won't be the dumb GUI user only OS. This is a
niche OS for the time being, probably even forever (even if that niche
is hopefully getting bigger with time). Our R1 user base will be
technically advanced, we can as well adapt to this fact by delivering
those tools you'd expect to be there.
You wouldn't use Win98 for a server, either, would you? Haiku R1 will
not be a secure OS and thus should not come with server apps, so people
don't get the wrong impression.
I'm not forgetting our target audience for R1, but later it will be very
difficult to change something in the OS. People will expect it to be
there and shout very loudly if some daemon is missing (or replaced) in
R2. We should take the chance and show what we're heading at.
