In order for this to work you'll have to edit your
'/boot/beos/etc/profile' and comment out any 'cd' commands.
For example, my R5 installation had a lines like this:
#
# set the prompt and cd to the to our home directory
#
PS1='$ '
cd
Just comment out the 'cd' command:
#
# set the prompt and cd to the to our home directory
#
PS1='$ '
#cd
After this, regularly opened terminals will have their initial working
directory as '/'
