Though it's probably wise to be very careful with real life sounds, 
http://www.ljudu.com may offer some material (Creative Commons) to work 
with/from.

For the hard-to-steer moloch OS called Windows ME I used an audiofile very 
similar to this

as shutdown sound...(and never got bored with it)
