I'm glad a beos-ish set won. Congratulations Stippi.
I never got round to sending my promised icon email during the contest, but now
the thread's come up again:
The main point I wanted to make was about shadows - I don't think they are
necessary. The gradients on an icon can give the feeling of 3-dimensionality
and lighting. I find the "floor shadows" a bit odd, as they give the impression
every icon is sat on it's own shelf, which looks a bit strange when you have
many rows and columns of icons (eg on a desktop). Also I don't think a grey
splodge at the bottom of every icon adds much artistic value to them - I'd
rather they were simple and clear as the original BeOS icons were.
It's probably too late to have any impact on the icons, but I wanted to mention
it anyway.
