I believe trying to do 'odd' things with a broken bottle and some lube would be more pleasant than attempting this experiment.

Totally wacky idea, but it may be worth mentioning that there doesn't seem to be any *technical* reason why one couldn't have the same batch of files being managed in all 3 tools -- cvs, svn, and perforce. It does make things rather painful in terms of keeping the repository up-to-date with all 3 tools, not to mention handling check-ins, etc. However, if some intrepid individual were to configure things so that the svn and p4 repositories kept themselves in sync with cvs more or less automatically, perhaps a few of our more prolific contributors could be convinced to run with this sort of set up for a while. It would allow them to get a real grip on how each of the tools felt to work with on our code base without having to commit to a particular tool. I think we could trust those "more prolific contributors" ;) to make a good decision based on their experience and just go with that.

If/when we move from SF, it would be hard to argue against using either of them -- svn or p4 -- simply because they're better options than cvs.

If someone is so inclined - i have svn+apache running on my server which i have created an empty haiku repository on. If someone wants to populate the haiku repositry with a copy of the current tree and therefore allow other devs to try working with it rather than everyone conjecturing about which system is hypothetically better - then please get in touch with me and i will give you the account details for uploading etc. I dont think its going to be a straight dump of files so i cannot offer to do the setup myself as i know nothing about the current haiku setup :P

At this point in time i cannot offer full hosting services for it yet until we get our link upgraded (most likely in the next month or so).

Nik
