A couple of months ago, all the source code was migrated out of the original directory layout (/app_kit, etc.) into a new, more logically structured layout (under /current). Basically anything outside of /current is not being used and will eventually go away.

Does this affect the build on linux?

OpenBFS can not be built under Linux. It requires the BeOS kernel as it links against it.

I had troubles w/ the old cvs server and couldn't
find a new one on the page.

Hmmmm? There is no new CVS server AFAIK. You just need to get the files that are inside the "current" tree.

Why all the trees at the same level as "current"? Ie.
/app_kit vs. /current/src/servers/app/ ? That is to say,
why the redundancy?
