Then apparently I have a strange combination that doesn't work for one 
reason or another -- M$ Natural Keyboard 4000 and a Biostar K8T80-A7. 
Then again, I haven't had much success in using that keyboard with a 
USB-PS/2 adapter, either. *shrug*
