Have a look at:
current/src/apps/bin/listdev

It does the same thing (well, almost at least :) for the command line.
You will just reuse the "cm_wrapper" for the Devices preferences 
application, it's pretty simple to use. It will open the underlying 
driver /dev/misc/config and get all the information using it.
If you're interested in the driver source as well, you can find it 
here:
current/src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/misc
