That depends. Epson's print head is based on different technology,
allowing for finer dots, but making the head itself more complicated.
That's why Epson printers are usually considered better for photos and
digital imagery, while HP's printers are basically considered better
for office work. However, for that a laser printer is best anyway.
The advantage of having a fixed print head is that Epson's cartridges
are cheaper, and that HP's cartridges are next to impossible to
refill. You can refill them one to three times, and then it's a new
cartridge and a new print head for you. Epson's cartridges are a lot
better in that respect because the print head does not wear out nearly
as fast as HP's. So if you don't want to subsidize HP's low printer
prices by paying their outrageous cartridge prices and turn to
refilling cartridges instead, refilling Epson-style cartridges is a
lot more convenient and in the end cheaper.
