Hi,

On 4/1/07, zjs <jszhang3@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:
The answer to 'What componets and licenses are acceptable' on the
page(http://haiku-os.org/development/faq) is :
/While for applications, kernel drivers, and most add-ons, the only
further restriction is that the license does not contain special
conditions we cannot or do not want to accept (like the so called
"advertising clause" in an older BSD license version).

/But in Haiku's GSOC 2007 project idea : Write a FireWire stack, some
sentences:
/This could be done by porting a stack with a compatible license, ie.
the FreeBSD FireWire stack would be a candidate. /
/
/I found that FreeBSD's firewire stack is lincensed under 4-clause BSD
license including the"cdvertising clasue". This conflcits with the
answer to the faq.

BTW: I fonud some driver code ported from NetBSD which lincensed under
4-caluse BSD license. For
example:src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/network/pegasus/if_aue.c,
src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/emuxki/emuxki.c, etc.

I applied for the GSOC2007 FireWire stack project, but but, its idea
conflcts with the haiku's license! What can I do about the FireWire
project?

We even have GPL-based software in our repo. While not preferred, I
think it's OK if you use that code for add-ons/modules (i.e.: not for
core components like the app_server).

Bye,
Waldemar Kornewald
